Environment and Water Minister Tanya Plibersek says about “ten per cent of global carbon emissions” come from the fashion industry.
Ms Plibersek said the amount of waste and the proportion of carbon pollution coming from that industry is “extraordinary”.
“It’s more than international flights and maritime shipping together,” she told Sky News Australia.
“A quarter of a million tonnes of fashion waste ends up in our landfill.
“Costs charities about $18 million a year just to deal with the waste.”
