Defence Minister Richard Marles says the government’s $54 billion for the Navy is the “most significant reason” Australians should be confident in the nation’s defence.
Mr Marles joined Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell to discuss the government’s latest plan for the Australian Navy.
“What we saw under the former government was announcement after announcement which was a vision of the future but the money just wasn’t there,” he said.
“We heard them announce a $35 billion guided weapons enterprise and they attached $1 billion to it.
“This is $54 billion worth of expenditure over the next decade and $54 billion is now in the budget for that.”
