A horror car accident in regional Victoria has left one person dead and another receiving treatment in hospital.
The crash unfolded on Friday afternoon in Everton Upper, near Wangaratta, in the state’s north-east.
A woman was driving along Beechworth-Wangaratta Road about 2pm when police say she lost control of her vehicle.
The car then veered off the road and slammed into a tree.
“Emergency crews arrived on scene and started treating the female driver and her female passenger,” Victoria Police said in a statement.
However, the driver died at the scene, with her passenger taken to hospital.
Police are now piecing together the circumstances surrounding the crash, and are calling on the public’s help as they carry out the investigation into the fatal incident.

The woman’s death is the 40th to be recorded on Victoria’s roads since the start of this year.
