One month on from the effects of Cyclone Kirrily, coral reefs in Magnetic Island are beginning to recover.
The rapid actions of a local tour operator after the severe weather have boosted their chances of rejuvenating.
The reef rebuilding itself is the result of passionate locals who flipped upturned corals so they would receive sunlight to survive.
Corals will die if they are upside down or face away from sunlight.
The team behind helping the reef survive swam into the water just days after the cyclone to increase the coral’s chances of survival.
