Accused double-murdered Beau Lamarre-Condon allegedly sent fake texts from Jesse Baird’s phone telling his house mates he was moving to Perth.
Lamarre-Condon seemingly did so to give them the false illusion Baird was still alive.
The Sunday Telegraph revealed there were two texts sent from Lamarre-Condon’s ex-boyfriend’s phone in the days after he had allegedly murdered him and his current boyfriend Luke Davies.
Baird had been “kicked out” of the house last week by his roommates, with cleaners booked for Thursday, due to the dishevelled state of the property, according to the Daily Telegraph.
In the initial stages of the investigation, a police source confirmed to the publication, the text messages threw detectives off the trail as they were led to believe Baird was still alive.
The first of the text messages said Baird would collect furniture from the Paddington address to put into storage before his move to Perth on Thursday.
However, Lamarre-Condon seemingly backtracked on his plan and told Baird’s housemates to put the furniture out on the street.
Lamarre-Condon handed himself over to police about 10.30am on Friday before being charged with two counts of murder.
Police will allege Lamarre-Condon, who was serving as a youth command officer, shot both Baird and Davies with his service issued Glock pistol on Monday at some time between 12am and 5.30am.
Detective Superintendent Doherty said on Friday that investigators would focus on the accused officer’s “efforts to conceal” the alleged murders, as it emerged text messages had been sent from Mr Baird’s phone hours after his death.
Lamarre-Condon has offered no assistance to police during their enquiries, Detective Superintendent Doherty added.
He appeared before Waverley Local Court on Friday with no bail application made.
Investigators are wasting no time in their search to find the bodies in order to determine an official cause of death and to provide closure for their families.
Sky News Australia contacted NSW Police who confirmed it was their priority to locate the bodies of Baird and Davies.
“We appreciate that people have many questions they want answered, and so do we. But as this has been a very fast-moving investigation, the detectives are still in the process of conducting the necessary inquiries in order to collect the information needed,” a police spokesperson said.
“As this matter is before the courts, we aren’t in a position to provide further information at this time.”
